“My friend had to cancel her wedding because she isn’t sure when things will be normal enough to hold it.” “We had to cancel the once-in-a-lifetime trip that we’ve been planning for 5 years.” “My coworker’s mother just died from the coronavirus and they aren’t able to hold a funeral.” “My sister just developed a fever and isn’t sure if she should be worried yet or not.” “My pregnant friend hasn’t been able to see her doctor and her husband isn’t allowed in for the ultrasounds.” “My brother lost his job and can’t make rent.” “I’ve been staying up until 1 a.m. every night finishing work because I can’t get enough done during the day while watching the kids.”
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is affecting all of us in some way. This is an extremely difficult time for reasons differing from person-to-person. As a leader, the best way to help your employees make it through is to show compassion, understanding, and empathy.
At MARS, all employees in our headquarters and our satellite offices have made the transition to working from home. They are doing their best to maintain company performance while dealing with external stressors. We are so incredibly thankful for their commitment and dedication.
We should use this time to demonstrate to our employees that they are worth more than their productivity. Showing them that we value them by being flexible and understanding will build loyalty and trust. Our goal isn’t to burn our employees out; it’s to do whatever we can to help them stay happy and healthy.
